It is a dream... A dream of mine to someday own a horse (or two). In fact, nothing would make me happier than living on a ranch with horses and land and fresh food from our garden. I don't know how anyone couldn't find God in a place like that.
Though few others are privy to this dream of mine, it is something Jason has known about me for some time. So yesterday, with his wife and munchkins in mind, he set up an intimate tour of a local horse ranch. Just for us.
We were greeted by 4 dogs upon pulling into the ranch. There were acres of fresh green grass, wide open spaces for the animals to run, and people milling about caring for the needs of some 28 horses. In addition to the dogs, we were greeted by the owner who began to tell us everything we wanted to know about the ranch. She introduced us to a few horses, a donkey, and even gave us a "class" in grooming a horse.
The girls? At home. That is the best way to describe their reaction. It did not take long to acquaint themselves with the animals. Ella found a friend in L.B., the ball chasin' dog, and Hannah and Cocoa got to be good buds (see pics below). Gracyn, giggled a lot, pretended to be scared from time to time, but all in all she was in tickled pink to be in that space.
I had the honor of volunteering at a rescue horse ranch a few years back (before kids). The experience was absolutely amazing. There is no other creature like the horse. Magnificent. Powerful. And so peaceful. They are lovers of people and the gentlest animals you'll ever know. Being around them again yesterday made me ache for my dream to be a reality.
